General Training Guidance
The following tips may be helpful when conducting your training.
• Conduct a needs assessment prior to the training to identify the training needs of the organization/participants. This will also ensure that the training is the appropriate length.
• Arrive at the training facility early. Allow yourself time to orient yourself to the facility and identify locations for restroom, entrances, exits, and other key locations.
• Make yourself available for questions following the training. The participants may have issues to discuss that they were uncomfortable bringing up in front of the group.
• Distribute and collect training evaluations immediately following the session. You will be most likely to receive accurate feedback while the material is still fresh in the audience's minds.
• Materials, materials, materials! Provide participants with plenty of additional resources and handouts that can provide additional guidance on the ADA. However, make sure the materials are effective for their organization. Also provide materials for taking notes.
• Provide participants with a contact list in case they have additional questions after they leave the training. This list should include your contact information as well as information for other pertinent agencies and organizations.
• If participants request materials in alternate formats, be able to access those materials in a timely manner. These materials could include large print, Braille, audio recordings, or floppy disks.
