ADA Basics: Introduction and overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The session includes a history of disability rights laws, overview of 5 titles of the ADA, and presentation of valuable ADA-related resources. The session is geared towards individuals interested in learning more about the law or those who want to refresh their ADA knowledge
Disability Etiquette: Provides tips on effectively interacting with coworkers, customers, and clients with disabilities. Special attention is paid to the business necessity for good customer service, regardless of disability. This session includes interactive activities, simulation exercises, and quizzes.
ADA & Nonprofits: Introduction of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 with a brief history of disability legislation and highlight of the titles of the ADA. The application of the law to nonprofit organizations is introduced. Specific topics covered include employment responsibilities, physical accessibility requirements for nonprofit offices and facilities, communication issues, and disability etiquette. Targeted at nonprofit executives, managers, staff, and board members.
ADA & Small Businesses: Addresses the requirements of the ADA regarding equal access to employment opportunities and places of public accommodation. The primary focus of this training will be on for-profit businesses (even though the ADA also applies to non-profits). Specific examples of Reasonable Accommodations for qualified workers with disabilities and Readily Achievable Barrier Removal in places of public accommodation will be discussed. The relevant tax incentives that are available to help small businesses to offset the expense of complying with the ADA will be covered in detail specific to who's eligible and what expenditures qualify. An update of the status of the ADA Notification bill (H.R. 728) will be included.
ADAAG Overview and Common Architectural Issues: Introductory discussion of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design including overview of architectural requirements under the law. The session will include an in-depth discussion of common errors associated with construction and physical accessibility. The presenters will also briefly discuss topics including public rights-of-way, recreational facilities, correctional facilities, and children's play areas.
Accessible Recreation Facilities: Session discusses the newly issued accessibility guidelines for newly constructed and altered recreation facilities. Facilities covered include amusement rides, boating facilities, fishing piers and platforms, miniature golf courses, golf courses, exercise equipment, bowling lanes, shooting facilities, and swimming pools, wading pools, and spas.
ADA & Seniors: Often times, seniors don't think of themselves as people with disabilities. This session will examine how to educate the escalating number of seniors about the ADA and highlight the more applicable sections of the ADA to the 50+ population. This training will also cover specific disability/senior etiquette and awareness exercises.
ADA & Title II: Examines the specific requirements of state and local government entities under the law. Topics covered include transition plans, appointing an ADA coordinator, grievance procedures, and effective communication. This session is a must-have for any Title II entity wanting assurance that they are meeting their responsibilities under the law.
Small Towns & Rural Communities:Examines the specific Title II requirements for state and local governments with a focus on small-town and rural issues. Provides a detailed discussion of the steps all Title II entities should undergo to ensure ADA compliance. Includes useful worksheets and cost-saving tips for compliance.
ADA Title I- Employment: Discusses in detail the employment provisions of the ADA with attention given to who is covered by the law, reasonable accommodations, and undue hardship. This session is beneficial for human resources professionals, private employers, persons with disabilities, and Title II employers.
The ADA & Human Resources Professionals: Designed to address the needs of HR professionals, this session provides a brief overview of the ADA employment provisions under Title I and focuses on best HR practices to ensure compliance with the law. Special attention is paid towards accommodating employees with disabilities, confidentiality, and other personnel issues.
